Education-Training

There are 5 universities, 16 institutes, 1 academy, 32 Teknikum (technical high schools), 35 PTU( a school type between the Industrial Vocational High School and Educational Centre for Apprenticeship) and 598 normal high schools in Crimea. The total number of the students is 232 859. Of this total figure, 197 162 students are composed of Russians and the other nations and 38 697 students are composed of Crimean Tatars.

As a result of the initiatives taken, 1839 student had taken diplomas in Crimea so far; 166 teachers were appointed and 6 National Schools were opened. Due to the lack of sufficient classrooms, all courses are taught in Russian language apart from the Crimean Tatar Turkish. The Department of Tatar Turkish Language and Literature was opened in the Crimean State University in the year of 1991. Each year, 50 students were enrolled to this department until the year of 1995. The Crimean State Industry and Pedagogy Institute was founded thanks to the Crimean Tatar intellectuals and the People's Movement in the year of 1994. This institute was composed of 1300 students 722 of which consisted of Crimean Tatars. 70 teachers among 100 teachers working in that institute and the dean of the institute were of Tatar roots. Approximately more than 200 Crimean Tatar students attend their university educations in Turkey.
