MUSTAFA ABDULCEMIL KIRIMOGLU

He was born in Bozköy on 13 November 1943. All his family and he was banished to Andican region of Uzbekistan being accused as a "traitor" when he was 6 months old. He completed his secondary education in 1959. His being admitted to the University was prevented on grounds that those who are not loyal to the Soviet union had no right to faculty. He was enrolled with Tashkent Agriculture Mechanization and Irrigation Institute in 1962. He was expelled from the school due to one of his articles. He was condemned to 1.5 years in prison because he rejected military service. Kırımoglu, who was arrested again in 1969-1974, was kept in heavy work camps besides his punishment. When he was put before trial 3 days before completion of his punishment due to an unfounded accusation, he started his hunger strike lasting for 303 days. Thus he was able to make himself heard in all over the world.

He was put to trial in Siberia in spite of worldwide knowledge regarding his situation. He was sent to the Primorski work camp for 2.5 years near Chinese border. He was sent to Tashkent to be kept in open supervision when his punishment was over. He was rearrested because he did not abide by the rules. He was sent to exile to Yakutistan. He turned back to Crimea after completion of his punishment.

He was rearrested for the sixth time in 1983. He was sent to heavy work camp for three years. He was rearrested in 1983 because he wanted to move his diseased father's body to Crimea. He was retried in 1986. He was released together with 5 human rights advocators being declared as a precondition by Reagan in the summit of Gorbachev and Reagan conducted in Rejkavik, Zealand.

He organized the demonstrations arranged in Red quarter in Moscow in 1987, which had great echoes in all over the world. He was elected as the chairman of "Crimea National Movement Organization" in Tashkent in May in 1989.

The 2nd National General Assembly gathered on 26 June 1991 in Akmescit. Crimea proclaimed independence. 33 members of the first Crimea National Parliament were elected. Kırımoğlu was elected as the chairman.

Kırımoğlu is married with three children.
