His son, Humareveyh who was twenty years old was enthroned instead of Ahmed b. Tulun. His elder son, Abbas opposed to this, but he was killed. On the other hand, the enthronement of Humareveyh caused the negotiations of peace to come to an end between the Abbasi and Tuluni people. Meanwhile, Ishak b. Kundacik who was appointed as the governor of Egypt and Syria and Muhammed El-Afsin who was the governor of the Diyar-i Mudar from Saracogullari united their forces. They started to make some preparations in order to capture the lands under the dominion of Humareveyh through getting the benefit of his inexperience. Moreover, they applied to el-Muvaffak and wanted ancillary forces for reinforcement. El-Muvaffak accepted this proposal since it was suitable for his policy and he ordered them to advance towards Damascus. The two commanders who took this order set on motion and established dominion in Aleppo, Hims, and Antioch.
The regent of Tuluni State in Damascus joined to their forces and only the city of Seyzer maintained its obedience to Humareveyh. When Humareveyh got the information about these incidents in Syria, he immediately sent an army and this army established dominion again in Damascus. But they could not get any results due to the approach of the winter season. On the other hand, el-Muvaffak sent his son, Ahmed to Syria in order to unite with the two commanders. The army of Egypt could not be successful against these allied forces and retreated to Remle. At the same time, Ahmed penetrated into Damascus in January-February 885. These events had led Humareveyh to set on motion from Egypt in person and he started to wait Remle. Meanwhile, Ishak and Mohammed separated from Ahmed due to a conflict among them. Under these circumstances, Ahmed whose army lost its power and Humareveyh encountered in a region called as el-Tavvahin between Damascus-Remle (February-March 885). Due to his inexperience and youth, Humareveyh left abandoned the battlefield in the very beginning of the war. Abbasi army started to despoil the military encampment of Egyptian this case.
However, Sa'd el-Aysar from the Egyptian army who was not aware of the retreat of Humareveyh attacked to the forces of Ahmed together with his troops who lied in wait. This time, it was the turn of Ahmed to flee away from the region, he left the battlefield upon leaving lots of sacrifices and slaves behind. Afterwards, Humareveyh established dominion in Syria, Sugur(uc) cities and Mosul. Upon the defeat of el-Tavvahin, El-Muvaffak had understood that he could not capture Egypt any more. Therefore, he had to make peace with Humareveyh. According to the peace provisions between the two sides (886), Humareveyh was entitled as the governor of the regions of Egypt, Syria and Anatolian borders for a period of thirty years. In return, he would pay annual tax of 300.000 dinars. However, Ahmed b. Tulun had paid this amount for only Egypt before.
the other hand, the good relations between Ishak b. Kundacik and Mohammed el-Afsin were at loggerheads and these two commanders longed to possess the lands of each other. Mohammed el-Afsin came took side with Humareveyh and united his forces with him. However, this alliance could survive only for a year. Ishak had understood that the negotiation with Humareveyh would be much beneficial for him and he realised it. In return to this event, Mohammed el-Afsin set motion in order to invade Damascus. The armies of Humareveyh and Mohammed encountered in the region of Seniyet el-U'kab near Damascus (May-June 888). The army of Egypt won the war. Mohammed preferred to run away. Humareveyh sent Ishak b. Kundacik to follow him. As a result, Mohammed el-Afsin had perceived that he could not resist against to these two allies and he had to go to Baghdad to apply to el-Muvaffak (July 889).
Then, el-Mu'temid died in October 892 and the son of el-Muvaffak, Ahmed was assigned as the caliph under the name of el-Mu'tezid. Mu'tezid approved the assignation of duty pertaining to Humareveyh. Therefore, the relations between the Abbasi State and Tuluniler State developed in a friendly manner. As a consequence, Humareveyh's daughter, Esma who was famous with the name of Katr el-Nada got married with the Caliph Mu'tezid. Humareveyh had been extravagant in his expenditures during his life and this situation affected the financial situation of the state in an adverse manner. In the course of a military expedition to Syria, he was killed by the slaves when he was nearly thirty-two years old (8th January896). His murder at a very young age was a terrible misfortune for the Tuluniler State and Egypt.
