Upon the death of Sultan Mes'ud, Melikshah b. Mahmud was declared as the sultan. The Caliph Muktedi had obtained a great opportunity in order to abolish the Seljuk authority in Iraq. Meanwhile, the sultanate of Melikshah could only last for a few months. The emirs who perceived that he was not potent enough for sovereignty brought his brother, Muhammed from Huzistan and they enthroned him to the throne of Iraq Seljuks State (1153).
