Pursuant to the enthronement of Sultan Mes'ud, the emperor Aleksios Komnenos died and Ioannes II Komnenos (Yuannis) replaced him (1118). Upon these developments, the struggles between the two sides started again. Turks captured Denizli. But the new emperor captured some of the cities particularly the city of Denizli by means of two military expeditions that he organised in the years of 1119 and 1120. The emergence of Pecenek people in the Balkans forced the emperor to return to this front. Sultan Mes'ud had to collaborate with his father-in-law, Emir Ghazi. Emir Ghazi had fairly expanded his country in the course of the wars against the Byzantine and the Crusades and he was entitled with the title of "Ruler" by the Abbasi Caliph. Thus, Emir Ghazi had become the most powerful ruler in Anatolia. Although the sultanate was under the dominion of Seljuks State, the domination of Anatolia was under the reign of Danismendli principality. Upon the collaboration of Sultan Mes'ud with Emir Ghazi, his brother, Ruler Arab who dominated in the regions of Ankara and Kastamonu set in motion in order to ascend the throne. The Ruler Arab benefited from the occupation of Emir Ghazi with Artuklu principality and won the war against his brother, Mes'ud. Sultan Mes'ud had to ask help from the Byzantine emperor. Ioannes Komnenos got the advantage of the fights among the Turks and captured Kastamonu. On the other hand, as a result of the arrival of Emir Ghazi, the Ruler Arab was defeated and forced to run away to Cilicia. In the year of 1127, the Ruler Arab set in motion again with the forces that he collected from Arabians, Turks and Armenians. There were several wars between him and Emir Ghazi and as a result of these fights, the Ruler Arab ran away to the Byzantine and disappeared from the stage of the history.

Until the death of his father-in-law, Sultan Mes'ud was almost under his protection. Sultan Mes'ud had joint activities with the Ruler Muhammed that had replaced his father, and they expanded their borders against the Byzantine. However, upon the death of the Ruler Muhammed in 1143, the pressure of Danismendli principality over Sultan Mes'ud disappeared. He benefited from the struggles for the throne among the princes of Danismendli principality. Thus, he recaptured Ankara, Cankiri and Kastamonu from the Danismendli principality (1143). He invaded the country of Elbistan after one year. Upon these rapid developments, Sultan Mes'ud became the most powerful of Anatolia again. He got the advantage of the struggles between the Mosul Tutors and Artuklu principality and expanded his borders towards the east. In addition to this, the Turkmen raiders that were subject to him advanced towards the west along the valleys of Menderes and Gediz. Upon these developments, the Byzantine emperor Manuel Komnenos set in motion with a large army in order to repulse the Turks from Anatolia. He captured some of the cities in the Western Anatolia, and then, advanced to Konya that was the capital city of the Seljuks State. He defeated the Seljuk forces in Aksehir and destroyed this city.

Pursuant to this event, he advanced towards Konya. Upon these news, Sultan Mes'ud returned from the east as soon as possible. He arranged his army in Aksaray and encountered the emperor in front of Konya. The Byzantine people had destroyed the environs of Konya and annihilated the people of the city. They lost great casualties against the tactics of the war applied by Seljuks and they were defeated. Upon this defeat, they had to retreat.
