Sultan Tuğrul III

The Tutor Pehlivan Muhammed enthroned Arslan-shah's son, Tugrul as the sovereign of the Iraq Seljuks State. His uncle, Muhammed who was in Huzistan came to Isfahan and gathered some forces around him. The Tutor Pehlivan advanced towards Isfahan with a great speed. The Ruler Muhammed could not resist to him and he was totally defeated and ran away to Huzistan. The Tutor Pehlivan wrote some letters to the neighbouring states and demanded them to deliver prayers in the name of Sultan Tugrul III. Of course, the rulers accepted this proposal and accomplished it. The Caliph el-Mustezi had also approved the sultanate of Tugrul. In the first years of Tugrul's sultanate, the Iraq Seljuks State and Eyyubi State were in a conflict of influence in el-Cezire and the Eastern Anatolia.

The Tutor Pehlivan died in the year of 1186. However, before his death, he had divided the countries under his domination into four sections to be shared among his four sons and he wanted them to be submissive to their uncles, Kizil-Arslan. Sultan Tugrul had to struggle with Kizil-Arslan until the year of 1191. Kizil-Arslan who had even declared his sultanate once in the past was killed in a mysterious manner in the following year. Pursuant to the death of Kizil Arslan, Tugrul ascended to the throne of Iraq Seljuks State through the support of some emirs. But meanwhile, there emerged a threat that was more dangerous than Ildenizli family, this threat was the Harezmshah State.

Before these events, the Harezmshah Tekis had advocated and claimed for the right of Seljuks in the west. Before long, this goodwill was not paid attention as before and Tekis desired to capture Iraq. In order to get rid of this new danger, the Sultan Tugrul came to the city of Rey. As a result, a state of peace was concluded between the two sides. According to this peace, the city of Rey would be under the domination of Tekis. Tekis left a little force here and then returned to his country. Sultan Tugrul advanced towards the east in the year of 1193 and captured the city of Rey and he annihilated some of Harezm people living in this city. In the following year, Tekis advanced towards Rey. Abbasi Caliph encouraged Tekis for a war. Despite the recommendations of his commanders, Sultan Tugrul rejected their proposal to retreat. The negotiations for peace did not yield any positive results between the two parties. Sultan Tugrul fought against Harezmshah Tekis with a little force out of the city of Rey and he was killed in the battlefield (1194). When Sultan Tugrul was killed, he was 25 years old. His head that was cut off was sent to Baghdad by Tekis. Therefore, the Seljuk State that was founded by a Tugrul Bey dissolved with another Tugrul Bey.
