Selim Cihangir Shah reigned the state for a period of twenty-two years. He was a fair ruler, but he was addicted to zest and amusement. He could not acquire hardly any military success and he lost the city of Kandahar that was captured by the Iranians. The celebrities of the state did not do anything but struggling in order to increase their influence within the state. The most important work that Cihangir had accomplished was the road between Agra and Lahor.
In the period of Cihangir who had a weak character, the women started to be involved in the intrigues of the palace. He was on strained terms with his sons due to his weak government.
English people got interested in the trade of India and they opened a place to which they could accommodate their merchants in the port of Surat in Gucerat. All these events coincided with the period of Cihangir (1613). This port that was used like a bridgehead by England would provide them the opportunity to capture the entire country in the course of time.
Cihangir died in the course of his dethronement and his son, Hurrem Shah ascended the throne under the title of "Shah Cihan" (Shah of the World) (1628).
