The province of Kaşkay has extended from the coasts of the Persian Gulf towards the south of the regions of Isfahan and Bahtiyari. The interlacing altitudes of Zagros Mountains and the coasts of the gulf constitute the borders of this province. When we consider Shiraz as the middle section (centre), we can divide the Kaşgay people into three sections in accordance with the places in which they live.
1-Kaşkay Yaylak region: It extends from the north of Shiraz towards the Zagros Mountains. The centres of population in this region are as follows: Sipidan, Berucer, Semiron, Âbâde, and MorDest. 2-Kaşkay Kışlak Region: It extends from the south of Shiraz towards the Persian Gulf and it includes the following cities: Lar, Cehrom, Fruzâbâd, Kazron, Mümesnâ, Behbehan, Keçseran, Dugonbedân, Ramhürmüz, Buşehr, Kongan and Destsenan. 3-Middle (Centre) Section : It includes the environs of Shiraz, and the cities of Dest-i Erjen and MeruDest.
The south-north and the east-west borders that are within the region of the Kaşgay Province is a relatively wide area that cannot be compared with the other nomadic tribes that live in Iran. Furthermore, the Kaşgay people dwell in 17 regions of Iran (the most significant regions are (Fars, İsfahan, Kehgleviye, Çarmahal, Bahtiyari, Huzistan, Buşehr, and Hürmüzgan) and their means of subsistence is agriculture. They travel among these 17 regions and lead their nomadic life thereof. Moreover, the distribution of the Province of Kaşgay was exhibited in the map drawn by the English Field with the scale of 1:2.000.000 in the year of 1939 and the geographical characteristics of the region were pointed out therein.
The northern sections on the north where Kaşgay people live in are covered with interlacing high mountains (with the height of 1500-2000 meters). In these regions, summers are short and mild while winters are long and cold. The region (north) is primarily the water source of Zagros zone with rich streams. The northern section is abundant in meadows and it hass a fine weather quality in summers. The annual normal temperature of the region is within the range of 10 and 15 degrees. It is bordered with the end of Zagros Mountains in the east. The steppes of Iran extend from the end of the mountains. The provinces of Yezdr, Kirman and Hürmüzgan surround this region from the east. The deserts have surrounded the periphery of the region from the northwest and southeast. Due to the lack of fresh waters and meadows in this region, they were deprived of the interest of the nomadic groups and Kaşgay people mostly have settled in the other regions.
It extends to the waters of the Persian Gulf from the south. The region where Kaşgay people live in is surrounded with the natural borders. Generally, the southern sections are under the effect of the high temperatures in Arabia and the Persian Gulf. The temperatures in this region are always above zero. The frost is not encountered in this region in winters and there is not any snowfall, either.
Sometimes, there is high humidity in this region as a result of the heavy rains and fertile pastures grow up in this region thereof. The summers are hot and arid. It is bordered with the steppes of Hazisten and Bekir Ahmed from the west and Kehgileviye from the south. Also this region is abundant in pastures for winter residence due to the heavy rains that fall to this region. Although we have mentioned about the borders of the region where Kaşgay people lived in, we can indicate these borders in details as follows:
