The ratio of agriculture to the Gross National Product was nearly 30% at the end of the years of 1960s and this rat has decreased to the level of 15% in the beginning of the years of 1990. However, the ratio f industry has increased from the rate of 19% to the rate of 25% in the same period. Considering the sectoral distribution of GNP in the year of 1998, it has been observed that the ratio of agriculture that was 15.8% in the previous year has increased to the rate of 17.6% and the ratio of industry has decreased from the rate of 21.9% to the rate of 19.6%. The decrease in the production of the manufacture industry resulting from the deficiency of the domestic demands has been effective in the decrease that has been observed in the ratio of industrial added value to GNP. There has been stagnation of production especially in the sectors of textile, food, chemistry, metallic, and machinery-equipment. In parallel to the developments in the world economy, the service sector in the country has increased its share in the national income. While the ratio of service sector to the GNP was below 50% before the year of 1980, this rate increased to the rate of 59.4% in the year of 1995 and 62.7% in the year of 1998. It has been estimated that the share of the service sector in GNP will be realised with the rate of approximately 65% in the year of 2000. In respect of the contribution to the national income, the trade sector is the sub-sector that most rapidly develops among all the service sectors. The rapid development of tourism in the recent years has played an important role in the increase of the contribution of the trade sub-sector including the tourism sector in GNP. However, the effect and influence of the global crises that were dominant all over the world since the year of 1997 also affected the trade sector in the year of 1998. The growth rate of the sector that was 11.2% in the year of 1997 decreased to the rate of 1.2% in the year of 1998. The sub-sector of civil engineering that constituted nearly 10% of the service sectors has been adversely affected by the global crises. There have been significant decreases in he building licenses issued and the certificate of consents for building utilisation in the year of 1998.
