These lands with the terrestrial area of 170.500 square kilometres were consisted of an area of 200.000 square kilometres when the country was connected to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The population of the Republic is 310 thousands of people according to the census in 1989. Of this population, 200 thousands of people are composed of Tuva Turks, 100 thousands of people are Russian and the remaining 10 thousands of people are composed of various nationalities. It has been anticipated that 30 thousands of Tuva Turks live within the boundaries of the Republic of Mongolia and approximately 5 thousands of Tuva Turks in the Autonomous Region of Sincan in China.
Great activity has been observed in the density of population in the Republic of Tuva during the years of 1990's. Particularly the Russian population that lived in the villages had to immigrate to more norths and the inner regions of Russia due to the economical and social reasons. Therefore, there has been a great increase in the rate of population in favour of Tuvas. When the other Tuvas living in the other regions of Russia are taken into consideration, it can be stated that the population of Tuva Turks exceeds the number of 250 thousands nowadays.
