On 19 September 1932, Dr. Reşid Galib became the Minister of Education. Upon Prof. M. Fuad Köprülü’s resigning from deanery after a short time, Ali Muzaffer Bey was appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Letters, who had managed the faculty by proxy. Reşid Galip, who sought an opportunity to send Atsız away from university, found that opportunity with the article in Atsız Mecmua named “Dârülfünûn'un kara, daha doğru bir tabirle, yüz kızartacak listesi (Black, in more accurate words, shameful list of Istanbul University)” and the new dean of the Faculty of Letters ended the duty of Atsız as university assistant on 13 March 1933.

After a few days after his being removed from the University, Atsız caught the Dean of Faculty of Letters in a rivulet in Tokatlıyan and slapped in front of hundreds of people. Nobody reacted to Atsız for this event.

Atsız, who was removed from university assistantship, was appointed to Malatya Secondary School as a Turkish teacher. Atsız, who worked as a Turkish Language teacher for a short time in Malatya (8 April 1933-31 July 1933), was appointed as the literature teacher of Edirne High School. His duty as a literature teacher in Edirne went on for a short period of time such as 3-4 months (11 September 1933-28 December 1933).

Atsız published Orhun, which was the constituted a continuation of Atsız Mecmua, in Edirne (editions 1-9, 5 November 1933-16 July 1934). Since he criticized in Orhun magazine the errors of four-volume history books published by Turkish History Institution and instructed as textbook in high schools, he was put to the order of ministry on 28 December 1933. Orhun was closed down in its 9th edition with the decision of Board of Ministers.

Atsız, who remained under the order of ministry for nine months, was appointed as the Turkish Language teacher of Deniz Gedikli Hazırlama School in Kasımpaşa on 9 September 1934.

Atsız got married to Bedriye Hanim, his second wife in February 1936 and had two sons named Yağmur, on 4 November 1939 and Buğra, on 14 July 1946. Atsız Bey got divorced from his second wife Bedriye Atsız in March 1975.

He worked as the Turkish Language teacher of Deniz Gedikli Hazırlama School in Kasımpaşa for about four years and was dismissed from this duty on 1 July 1938.

So, Atsız, carried on his studies as the literature teacher of Private Yüce-Ülkü High School as from 1937 until the end of June 1939. Atsız worked as the literature teacher of another Private high school, Bogazici High School between 19 May 1939 and 7 April 1944.

Atsız started to republish Orhun Magazine during his post as the Turkish Language teacher of Bogazici High School (1 October 1943-1 April 1944, edition:between 10 and 16, 7 editions).

Although local communists extraordinarily increased their activities during the days of 2nd World War, official authorities preferred watching those excessive movements instead of taking measures. Atsız published a clear letter addressing to the Prime Minister of the Day, Şükrü Saraçoğlu, to warn the relevant authorities in the 15th edition of Orhun, published in March 1944.

Atsız was talking about the increasing activities of Marxists in this clear letter. In addition, he said, if they do not close Orhun magazine down, he would give examples to these excessive activities in its next edition.

Atsız, disclosed the Marxist activities of Giritli Ahmed Cevad Emre, Pertev Nâilî Boratav, Sabahattin Ali and Sadrettin Celâl Antel in the 16th edition of Orhun, published in April 1944 and wanted Hasan Ali Yücel, the Minister of National Education of the day, to resign. This second clear letter lead to a great national rage within the country and in many cities, Istanbul and Ankara in particular, and many demonstrations were made against communism.

Atsız’s receiving letters and telegrams from all over Turkey disquieted the authorities in Ankara. Hasan Ali Yücel, whom even the members of his own party began to inquire, due to the communists in National Education community, first put an end to the literature teacher duty of Atsız in Bogazici High School.

Orhun magazine was closed down again by a decision of the Board of Ministers, and Sabahattin Ali, being provoked, was forced to bring an action of defamation against Atsız. Atsız, who was sued, went to Ankara on train and was welcomed by pro-Turk youth at the train station and was put up in an hotel.

The first session of action of defamation held on 26 April 1944 was very eventful. So, no university students were admitted to the second session held on 3 May 1944, and major student demonstrations took place to surprise the People’s Party government of the day, and hundreds of people were arrested.

In the decision session of this action, which turned into an action of “Turkism against Communism” rather than an action brought by Sabahattin Ali against Nihal Atsız, held on 9 May 1944, Atsız’s punishment of 6 months because of his calling Sabahattin Ali “Traitor” was diminished to 4 months on grounds of “national incitement, and this 4-month sentence was postponed.
