Prosecution of execution took Atsız from his house in the morning of 14 November 1973 Wednesday and transferred to Toptaşı Penitentiary. Atsız, who was put into the ordinary criminals dormitory for 40 people was transferred to Sağmalcılar Penitentiary, in which there was an infirmary, after some time.
When Atsız went to prison to serve his sentence of 1.5 years, nationalist scientists, university members demanded amnesty for Atsız by means of youth organizations and culture associations, applying to the President.
Despite Atsız stated that he did not commit any crime and did not demand amnesty in person, President Fahri Korutürk granted amnesty for Atsızs penalty.
Atsız was released from Bayrampaşa prison on 22 January 1974 having elapsed about 2.5 months of his 1.5-year sentence.
Atsız, who wrote articles strong enough to make a horseman get off his horse, as İbnulemin Mahmut Kemal İnal describes, was calm, polite, mild and joker in his personal life in contrast to his tough and sharp style. He addressed to everybody as Bey (Mr.) no matter how many years younger than himself.
Atsız suspected that he is ill in mid-November of 1975, but a disease could not be found by medical examinations and tests. He suffered a heart attack in the evening on 10 December 1975, the doctor could not understand that he suffered infarction. A second attack the next night took Atsız away from us on 11 December 1975 Thursday.
Those who wanted to visit due to Muslim Festival of Sacrifices Atsız, who was one of the waving flags of Turkish nationalism which remained at the top in spite of all of the powers, did their final duty for him on the first day of the festival on 13 December 1975 in Kadıköy Osmanaga Mosque. They carried him on their hands as far as Karacaahmet Graveyart from Osmanaga Mosque pursuant to the Afternoon prayer performed.
Atsız, who was a pioneer of Turkish nationalism, was also a good Turkolog. He knew Turkish language, history and literature very well, and he knew and loved the Göktürk period of Turkish history very much as if he had lived. He wrote two novels named Bozkurtların Ölümü (Death of Gray Wolves) ve Bozkurtlar Diriliyor (Gray Wolves Return to Life) on this period he liked so much, introduced Gokturks to Turkish nation. His novel named Deli Kurt (Mad Wolf) is the novel of first periods of Ottoman History. We see Atsız in the personality of Selim Pusat in Ruh Adam (Ghost Man). He said that he was going to write Yalnız Adam (Lonely Man) as a continuation of Ruh Adam. Another book he was going to write was the third volume of Bozkurtlar. Among his unpublished books, we can cite II. Mahmut'tan Günümüze Kadar Osmanlı Hanedanı Tarihi (Ottoman History from Mahmut the Second to Today).
The poems of Atsız were published several times with a book named Yolların Sonu (End of the Ways). Besides his books such as Türk Ülküsü, 900.Yıldönümü, Türk Tarihinde Meseleler (Turkish Ideal, 900th Anniversary, Issues in Turkish History), there are two humorist novels he wrote named Dalkavuklar Gecesi (Flatterers Night) and Z Vitamini (Z Vitamin).
