Pursuant to Izzeddin Keykavus, Alaeddin Keykubad ascended the throne who had failed in the struggles for sovereignty in the throne of the Seljuk State that he had been involved before. He had even been arrested for a specific period after these struggles. Abbasi caliph had sent the "firman of sultanate" to Keykubad. Alaeddin Keykubad made an agreement with el-Melik ul-Esref against the Egyptian Eyyubi State. Pursuant to this agreement, he besieged the castle of Kalonoros (today's Alanya) from land and sea and he captured it (1223). The city and the castle was reconstructed in a magnificent manner and these construction works were completed within a few years (1226). Then, this city took the name of Ala'iye in reference with the name of the sultan. The first Seljuk shipyard was founded in this city by Alaeddin Keykubad. Ala'iye had turned into a capital city that was used as a winter residence by Keykubad and his successors. Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad got rid of some of the staff officers that had assumed an opponent attitude against him. Then, he sent a navy that was built in Sinop to Sugdak, an important trade port in the Crimea under the command of Emir Coban who was the bey of Kastamonu. This overseas expedition was an interesting expedition that emphasised the importance of the forces of Seljuk State. As a result of this expedition, Turkish army not only conquered Sugdak, but also became influential in the central regions and subdued some of Kipchak beys and the Russian princes. A mosque was built in this region and Muslim judges, orators and muezzins were appointed for this region and a sufficient force was left here.

Pursuant to these activities, the navy returned (1225 or 1227). In probably one year after the Sugdak expedition, the sultan sent forces over the Cilicia Armenian kingdom. Seljuk forces advanced from the west and the north and conquered the coastal regions extending towards Silifke. The king Hetum had to make an agreement with Alaeddin Keykubad on condition that he would give soldiers to the sultan, that he would increase twofold the taxes and tributes that he paid to the sultan and that he would mint money in the name of Seljuk sultan. Turkmens were settled in the places that were captured from the Armenians.
