Tutus who had been the founder of Syrian Seljuks State was the son of Alp Arslan who was the Sultan of the Great Seljuks State. Pursuant to the defeat of Syrian conqueror, Emir Atsiz by the Fatimi State in front of Cairo, he was supposed to have died. Therefore, Sultan Melikshah had sent his brother, Tutus to Syria (1077-8). However, upon the application of Atsiz who was not dead to Melikshah, he ordered Tutus to go to the region of Aleppo. Then, when Fatimi people besieged the Damascus, Atsiz asked help from Tutus. Tutus killed Atsiz on the grounds of a trivial reason and captured the Syrian cities under his domination (1079) and then, invaded the Jerusalem. Therefore, the Syrian Seljuks State was established with its capital city of Damascus. We have observed that Suleymanshah who was the conqueror of Anatolia desired to capture Syria. Although Suleymanshah had besieged Aleppo for two times, he could not succeed and capture it. Ibn el-Huteyti that governed the city invited Tutus at the same time. The Ruler Tutus set in motion together with Artuk Bey. Suleymanshah was defeated in the war that took place in the place of Ayn Salem within the environs of Aleppo and he lost his life there (1086). Although Tutus captured the city of Aleppo, he could not invade its citadel. On the other hand, due to these events that took place in Syria, Melikshah advanced towards Aleppo and Tutus who did not want to fight with his brother retreated to Damascus.

Melik Shah intervened in the struggle of Tutus with Suleyman Shah who was the ruler of the Anatolian Seljuks State. When he came to Syria, the war had already ended and the victorious Tutus had come to Aleppo to invade it. Tutus who was afraid of being punished evacuated the city without meeting his sovereign, Melik Shah and he retreated to Damascus. Meanwhile, Artuk who played an important role in the victory against Suleymanshah encouraged Tutus for a war against the emperor Melik Shah. According to the opinion of Artuk, Melik Shah's army and animals were exhausted; and it was impossible for this army to resist against an attack. The firm answer of Tutus to this opinion was of great interest as follows: "I cannot hurt the honour and respect of my brother who had kept me in the background under his shadow". This short answer obviously indicates the thoughts of Tutus about the emperor with a great-embellished manner. Therefore, Tutus had not been an instrument of Artuk who was disappointed with the khan due to various reasons.

Pursuant to the departure of Sultan Melikshah from the northern Syria, Fatimi State invaded some cities of Palestine and Syria. The Ruler Tutus set in motion with the support that he had provided from Melikshah and he invaded Humus in 1090. However, the blockade of Tripoli ended with failure. Therefore, the cities invaded by Fatimi State could not be recaptured. Afterwards, Tutus was involved in a struggle to ascend the throne of the Great Seljuk State pursuant to the death of his brother, Melikshah. But this desire caused to his death at a very young age (1095).In the struggle for sultanate and the throne of the Great Seljuk State, the Ruler Tutus had asked help from his son, Ridvan while he was in Hamedan and wanted him to support him with a big army. Ridvan departed from Aleppo to provide support; but when he heard of the death of his father, he immediately returned to the aforesaid city. Ebu'l- Kasim el-Haseni who was the regent of Tutus in Aleppo recognised Ridvan as the successor of his father. But the domination of this vizier was prevented by Cenah ed-Devle Huseyin b. Ay-Tigin who was the tutor of Ridvan. Afterwards, Ridvan actually established the "Aleppo Seljuks Kingdom" (1095).

On the other hand, Ridvan's brother, Dukak had returned to Aleppo after his father's death. After a while, Sav-Tegin who was the regent of Tutus in Damascus invited Dukak to the cited city. Dukak accepted this invitation and went to Damascus. Then, he was able to establish the "Damascus subsidiary" of Syrian Seljuks State. Therefore, the Syrian Seljuks State was divided into two reigns within a short period.
