GAVURBAĞI MASSACRE (12 JULY 1946)
After the second World War a serious event happened.Employees working in Kerkuk Petrol Company applied to management for raising their salary,improving condition of their work and life.Employees demands werent being taken seriously.So petition consisting of the employees demands were published in newspapers and became known by all the people.After that all the employees resigned from their jobs to protest this stuation on 1 July 1946.Then emplayees were gathering in a place known as Gavurbağı Square every night and beginig to make speech and holding demonstrations.On 4 July 1946 because of the demands of Company Management police arrested some of the ringleaders supporting this strike.But employees grow angry about this arrest.On 12 July 1946 the police besieged the Gavurbağı Square where employees gathered everynight to stop their strike.When the police realised that employees didnt stop the strike started to open fire on people.Approximately twenty civilian citizens containing a woman and a child died as a result of this Genocide called as Gavurbağı Massacre:In Funerals, the people died in Kerkuk were burried Society Government and Company Management were damned because of this event causing hundreds of people to be wounded.
