Turkey is located in the region where the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa that constitute the Old World draw closest to each other and it is located in the point where the continent of Europe embraces the continent of Asia. Anatolia that has been a continental mainland due to its geographical position has witnessed collective migrations of various communities that led the history to take shape accordingly. Anatolia that owns various civilisations that cannot be counted has developed a resultant of various cultures that depended on their own identities but influenced each other. Most of the lands of Turkey are located in the South Western Asia. Turkey unites the borders of Europe and Asia and it has a total surface area of 780.580 km2 in Europe. The country is surrounded with Georgia, Armenia and Iran in the east, and Iraq, Syria and the Mediterranean Sea in the south. The other borders are consisted of the Aegean Sea, Bulgaria and Greece towards the west and the Black Sea towards the north. The geographical coordinates of Turkey are 36° 00'-42° 00' in the North Parallel and 26° 00'-45° 00' in the South Meridian.

Turkey that has 80 administrative provinces has been divided into seven geographical regions such as Black Sea Region, Marmara Region, Aegean Region, Mediterranean Region, Central Anatolian Region, Eastern and Southeastern Regions.
