Chief Commander Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha departed from Ankara in secret and went to the front. He had some conversations with Fevzi Pasha who was the Chief of the General Staff, Ismet Pasha who was the Front Commander and the other important commanders in relation with the plan of attack. Therefore, the date of attack was resolved as 26th August. Finally, the order of attack was directed to our army from the south of Afyon in the morning of 26th August 1922. The enemy got bewildered against this sudden attack. The front that they had positioned was cut through even in the first attack. The army of the enemy could not even resist for six hours. Our armies besieged the enemy from every direction in a short period of 4 days and they fought in a great pitched battle in Dumlupinar (30th August 1922). The armies of the enemy were totally destroyed in this pitched battle. Therefore, we won one of the most famous victories of the history. This war was named as the Chief Command Pitched Battle in the history. Pursuant to this great victory, the Greek army was totally destroyed in a crushing manner and their commanders surrendered.
