The Republic of Tuva that has an autonomous structure within the Russian Federation today is located in the northern parallels of 49-45° 53.46° and the eastern meridians of 88.49°-98.56°. Its borders can be stated as follows: Republic of Mongolia in the South, Buryal Autonomous Republic in the East, Irkutsk District in the North-east, Kasnoyarsk District and the Autonomous Republic of Hakas in the North and the Autonomous Republic of Altay in the West. The Sayan Mountains surrounds the northern part of the country all along; and it nearly constitutes a natural border with Russia. Due to the difficulty of surmounting these mountains, the railway network that has reached to nearly all regions of Siberia could not enter into the Republic of Tuva. Tannu-ula mountain chain that is the eastern border of the Altay Mountains is located in the south of the country.
"82% of the lands of the country is hilly and the rest 18% are covered with savannas. The highest mountain chain is Möngün Tayga (the Silver Wood) with the height of 3976". Most of the hilly regions are coated with woods and forests at the same time.
