Khorasan was one of the most significant centres and maybe the first in which the Islamic mysticism took place pursuant to the religion of Islam. Therefore, pursuant to the adoption of Islam in the Transoxania, this trend started to penetrate into Turkestan through the ways that were followed before by the religion of Islam. The cities of Herat, Nisabur and Merv started to get crowded with the Islamic mystics in the century IX. There were some sheikhs in Bokhara and Ferghana in the century X. Moreover, the Turks would call their sheikhs with the name of Bab, in other words, Baba (Father). There were also some Islamic mystics who were brought up among the Turks that came to Khorasan due to any reason. Muhammed Ma'şûk Tûsi and Emir Ali Ebû Hâlis were Turks.
Due to various reasons as stated above, the trend of Islamic mysticism gained power gradually and diffused towards the centres of Islam such as Nokhara, Samarkand, etc. The dervishes who were full of the love of religion introduced the religious faith of Islam to Turks and it was diffused therein.
