Mes'ûd's son, Mevdud emerged as the avenger of his father and the obstinate candidate as the heir apparent and he succeeded in his struggles. He defeated his Uncle Mohammed and his supporters and came to power as the ruler of the Gazneli State (1041). However, Mevdud did not have the proper characteristics that would change the fate of the standstill period in the Gazneli State. He fought with both the Indians and Seljuks State and could waylay the Seljuk raids temporarily. Mevdud died in the course of his expedition towards Seljuk State upon his alliance with the neighbouring states (1049).
