When Berke Khan died in the year of 1266, he was replaced by Batu Khan's grandson, Mengu Temur. Mengu Temur maintained the good relations with Mameluke Sultan and supported Ogeday's sons in the course of the wars between Ogeday's sons and Chagatai's sons. Meanwhile, the influence of Berke's nephew, Emir Nogay had increased a lot and he had started to dominate the state. Emir Nogay maintained this influence of him for exactly forty years. Within this period, he had been a commander that enthroned the Golden Horde khans and established dominion and control upon them. Pursuant to Mengu Temur, Tuta Mengu and Teleboga ascended the throne respectively. Tokta Khan who ascended the throne in the year of 1291 watched for an opportunity in order to get rid of the pressure of Emir Nogay and finally, he fought with him in the year of 1300. He defeated and killed him. Therefore, he became the only ruler of the state. From that date on, the branches and tribes that had lived on the banks of Lower Idyll, Yayik and Embe Rivers and that had been submissive to Emir Nogay had been called as "Nogay people".
