The official language of the Golden Horde State was Chagatai Turkish. In the beginning, they worshipped in the Gok Tanri (Sky-God), but the entire country became Muslim within a short period. After a while, the state totally became Turkish. However, this phrase of "becoming Turkish" was used for the dynasty of the rulers. More than ninety percent of the people were actually Turks (Kuman, Kipchak, Bulgarian… Turks). The Turks that are called as Tatars today are the people of the Golden Horde State and the name of Tatar has become a general name with the meaning of the "Northern Turks". The Mongolians had been a small minority. Most of its soldiers were also Turks. The Mongolian minority had been mixed and assimilated among the Turks. However, the khans were from the lineage of the Mongolian dynasty. Since they were married with Turks, the Mongolian effect could only remain in the organisation of the administration in the course of time.
