Census or Plebicite ?
The Baas Government informed that a census would be help on 12th October 1987. However , in the forms prepared for the census, it was obvious that it was a plebiscite rather than a census. As it was years ago, Baghdad Government would define the Arabs and Kurds and the Turks would be robbed of their national identity. Despite the objections raised by the Iraq Turks; Baghdad Government insisted on holding the census. The Iraq Turks showed great reaction to this situation. The Meeting and the demonstration organised by Iraq Turks Culture and Solidarity Association, were staged in Ankara on 12th October 1987 , on the day of census, parliament tarians such as Osman Değen and Nevbi Poyraz joined the meeting and the demonstration of Iraq Turks coming to Ankara from all over the Turkey.
the meeting, all the people including the ones living abroad protested against the bad attitude of Baghdad Government towards the Iraq Turks. After the meeting, the Iraq Turks put on the demonstration on the same day, a commission made up of Iraq Turks was invited to the National Grand Assembly and it passed an information to the chief of the Assembly, Necmettin Karaduman, Karaduman also emphasised that they wanted the Turks in Kerkük to lead a peaceful life.
