KNOWN CLANS AND TRIBES IN THE REGION
To reach to some knowledge about the Turkish tribes, which live into Iraq, it is necessary to study on the archive documents, which were written in the Ottoman period and survived to our time. As well, it can be said that, it is impossible to write the real and healthy history and cultural building of this region without studying on some documents, which exist in Ottoman archive and has survived to our time, like tax, population and land notebooks. At this section, some collected knowledges will be given about the Turkish tribes, which exist in Iraq and settled in the region starting from 16.century. We encounter that many trage and remains of Turkish tribes at the result of our researchs at the regions which the Turkish tribes intensively live in at this time in Iraq.We can still see the traces of the Turkish tribes which lived in this region, on the tribe and family names and the place, hill, mountain and stream names. It can be understood that the some settled tribes in Iraq were the members of Oguz tribes with looking the names of their tribes. Also, because of some tribes which is known as Turkish basis, has a smaller community names, it can not be understood that which these are the member of big Turcoman provinces.
In fact, small tribes which are the member of Oguz tribe, was settled down through the Trablussam, Damascus, Musul, and Kerkük regions, too.the turkish groups which lived around Damascus, Musul and Kerkük, are come into existence with small tribes. It is possible to encounter some communities, which are the member of Oguz tribe into these tribes.
During the research that includes both tribes and their community, apart from the clans we know that they belonged to the Oghuz, the presence of Turk Clans still settling in the area are all giving very important clues about the etnic structure of the area.
