When the Mongolian domination in Asia came to an end, Khirghiz people remained under the dominion of Kalmuk people in the beginning. Afterwards, they immigrated to the southwestern sections of the Tien Shan Mountains in the year of 1703. They submitted voluntarily to the domination of Hokand State that was founded a short period before their arrival. However, the Khirghiz people seized the majority of the population and military power through this annexation within a short period. Then, they established dominion in the government of the Hokand State before long. Therefore, the period of a new independent state started in the history of Khirghiz Turks. Hokand State developed gradually in the 18th century and rose to an influential state in the Central Asia. This attracted the attention of Bokhara Emirate and a competition and conflict came into existence between Hokand Khan Ömer Han (1809-1822) and Bokhara Emir, Haydar Shah (1800-1826). This conflict was recorded in history as one of the most terrible misfortunes of the Central Asian Turks. These khanates had increased this competition between then through doing homage to the Ottoman Empire and sending envoys to Istanbul in order to provide support from this state against the other. However, this cruel struggle was of use only for the Russians since it laid a proper foundation for the application of their plan for domination in the Central Asia.
